Musing Again

Fabricated Hope
The box of cereal
said there would be a
prize
inside.
There’s no reason
to wait until breakfast
to fish it out.
Kid at heart
peels back the flaps
and raises the box over
a naked bowl.
Tip the box,
the contents
tumble out.
There’s no stopping
those eyes from
combing over
every
puffed grain,
frosted oat,
sweetened flake,
marshmallow,
berry,
cluster of nuts and crunch,
square, circle, ring
shapes of every kind.
The prize is sure to
descend,
the box said it would…
and a kid at heart
believes,
believes even when
the bowl is more full
than the box.
